Nearly 7 months ago, we teamed up with SMU Guildhall to offer the Nels Memorial Scholarship, aiming to continue Nels Nelson’s legacy of excellence, generosity, and leadership by supporting talented future game developers. In addition to hiring several Guildhall alums, Certain Affinity currently supports Guildhall students through teaching, portfolio reviews, career days and guest lectures. A handful of our developers made their way down to SMU to be on-hand for the official announcement of the winner.
The day started off with an introduction about Certain Affinity, background on Nels and his legacy, as well a general open Q&A session for new students and faculty on CA and the industry as a whole. Veteran developers know a lot about presenting a portfolio and finding a way into the industry once your initial education is complete.
After a brief intermission, we resumed and prepared to inaugurate our winner. We’re proud and honored to congratulate Tyler Wolverton as the first recipient of the Nels Memorial Scholarship! Thank you for carrying Nels’ legacy of excellence, generosity, and leadership into the future. Thanks to budding developers like you, we’re looking forward to continuing this scholarship for years to come.
