Today we’re excited to reveal that Certain Affinity launched three additional scholarships in 2021 as we continue to foster and encourage education for the next generation of game developers. We’ve directly teamed up with Sheridan College, Humber College, and George Brown College in Canada to present these scholarships to outstanding students studying in a game development-related course. We’re looking for students who exemplify Certain Affinity’s Core Values, including “Continuously Evolve”, those that exhibit a strong interest and commitment to their field of study through extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and involvement in the classroom.
We’re also proud to showcase the three individual winners of the 2021 scholarship who have recently been awarded.
Congratulations to Zoe Pilgrim, a Sheridan College 3rd Year student studying Game Design!
“I am so honored to have been chosen for this award! It will be a huge help in paying for my tuition! I am extremely passionate about my field of study and the less I have to worry about the costs of living plus tuition, the more I can focus on my studies.
“I have hosted game nights to help engage students and build a sense of community.”
“My career goal is to work at an indie or smaller studio where I may have the opportunity to wear multiple hats. I’m a programmer at heart but as I’ve spent time at Sheridan, I have grown to love the design aspect of games and often find myself critiquing as I’m playing for fun.”
Congratulations to Tristan Fish, a Humber College 3rd Year student studying Game Programming!
“At the age of thirteen, [Tristan] started creating small video games and even stated that he wanted to be a game programmer as his future job in his grade 8 yearbook. Tristan has been tutoring students in his program for the past year and continues to help students understand complicated game programming concepts. Tristan is constantly going above the call of duty to make sure that he puts himself in a good position to succeed in his field of study. Upon graduation, he plans to pursue a career in creating captivating video games that people can find joy and happiness in.”
Congratulations to Barbara-Nicole Pagliuso, a George Brown College 2nd Year student studying Game Art!
“I am sincerely honoured to have been selected as last year’s recipient of the Certain Affinity Game Developer Scholarship at George Brown College and would like to express my sincere gratitude for your generosity and for your continued support to students who need it most. Thanks to your donation, I am able to continue my education at George Brown College and focus on my studies.”
“Your scholarship has helped me further my dream to one day be a Concept Artist and will play a key role in shaping me into a successful person in the future.”
We’re so proud of our first three winners and hope to award even more in 2022. Did you also know that these are not the first scholarships from Certain Affinity? We introduced the Nels Scholarship for students of SMU Guildhall, located in Texas, back in 2019. The third year of celebrating Nels Nelson’s legacy continues on into 2022, and we’re excited to have four active scholarships that directly foster the next generation of game developers.
