Projectiles love explosive barrels

Can a barrel with a lit fuse stop being a valid target for daggers/fireballs? Currently trying to shoot at something with a barrel even somewhat nearby between you and your target results in attack the barrel until it finally blows up.

This is really frustrating when assassin slow motion has been activated.
