About Us
Certain Affinity was founded in 2006 with a goal of creating innovative, action-oriented, top quality cooperative and competitive games. CA brings an unusually experienced group of top developers together as an employee-owned, self-funded company.
The company’s 40+ full time employees include veterans from a dozen successful game companies. Max Hoberman, Certain Affinity’s founder, serves as President and Creative Director. A 10-year veteran of Bungie, he was the multiplayer, interface, and online lead for Halo 2 and Halo 3. Paul Isaac, CA’s Engineering Lead, began his career at Origin in 1987 and has been lead programmer on a dozen titles, including numerous games in the Wing Commander series, Strike Commander, and Freelancer. Phil Wattenbarger, Certain Affinity’s Production Lead, started at Origin in 1992 and has worked as a lead on titles including Wing Commander, Crusader, and Freelancer.
The company’s leadership has taken a long-term approach from the start, beginning with work-for-hire on Bungie’s Halo 2 and Valve’s Left 4 Dead. They have also developed their own IP, a downloadable RTS called Age of Booty, with Capcom, and partnered with Activision on Call of Duty: World at War. This rare exposure to so many top-tier developers and publishers has helped them build their team and their infrastructure and processes, learning from the experts in the field while growing the company at a careful, measured pace.
